Sell it as the insurance will rip you off. It is beautiful ❤
That last lady, she was absolutely precious ✨️❤ Finally someone who gets emotional about her appraisal!!
Absolutely love the snail ruby clip ❤
Quality rather than quantity….and NOT plastic!
1910? Must've been the favorite toy of every Breaker Boy ;)
Nice
Using is not Abusing.
"I'll double your investment right now."
Just a heads-up accounting for average wages £50 in 1960 would be equivalent to approximately £3,650
Antiques Roadshow CLICKBAIT!
Thats not a toy Thats a model Im not mad on boats i rather aircraft but thats beautiful
in todays economy they can go to the steak house with that money!! wooooohooooo
I Say SOLD!😊
Sounds like the guest ought to have sent the peace offering!
How did he come to own this watch? Makes zero sense a random would have a legendary historical figure's watch, and it not be passed down through family or part of a museum at this point..
I'd be mortified to have it standing outside with the rain coming down like that!
It's under a canopy, they're really careful when filming things like this during bad weather
Last weekend I could have bought a onion 🧅 bottle for $200 at auction 😢howling I didn’t now 😂
Well, 150 years ago, the whole home might have been cold as a well digger's posterior and metal objects in the home might not help enjoy a bowl of soup or cup of tea or coffee as much as a warm spoon. I warm up my coffee cup before I pour the hot coffee in it. Works for me.
1960 could have bought a junky old car for £50 💯
Stuffy Englishman.
Why? Because he was well spoken, didn't say 'like' or 'you know' every other word and was genuinely interested in what the expert was telling him? Beautiful piece of furniture btw.
He was a very polite and correct gentleman. You obviously don't recognise manners.
Your comment about the owner is blatant jealousy by ignorant person
You obviously don't recognise good manners when you see them .
I seriously doubt you can find a craftsman who would/could build such a piece of furniture for 3,000 pounds. Perhaps if he/she didn't charge for labour.
Pete Davidson in the background 👁️👄👁️
Expert: "As you can see, this piece is actually a mosaic of nostril hairs." Lady: "Really, how dreadful". Expert: "Well it is actually quite rare and extremely old. 600 years ago, the Dominici family of Tuscany commissioned quite a lot of these." Lady: "Quite disgusting I should think." Expert: "I'd insure this for 50,000 pounds". Lady: "Oh my word. Its really quite lovely isn't it!""
Lovely, unusual piece.
That is awesome! I would like that.
Good to have a Great British programme on with no Brainwashing interatial ism us all. It's a breath of fresh air..
Well well. Sexy it is. Like it or not
This was back when 8,000-10,000 pounds would get you a nice car!
The late wonderful Bob Ross was a far better painter than Lowry.
It's worth a lot more than that!
Superb condition, but since that airing, the price has dropped considerably. One in that condition would still be worth a fair amount, but not as much as in 2000.
Oh Geoffrey you are such a sweet heart
My great grandfather immigrated from Ireland to Boston on the maiden voyage of the Carpathia. After a few years he developed the hobby of building small steam powered model boats. In April if 1912 he decided to begin his most ambitious project, a scale model of the Carpathia. He had been on the ship and knew it fairly well, the parts at least that passengers had seen and he acquired plans over the years and a lot of photos from people who had sailed on her. In 1956 he completed his 44 year project. In 2000 I inherited the model from my grandmother. I tested it and it still works. The model is 55 3/4 inches long and runs on coal. It also is programable using mechanical analog programming. He created 24 programs that work with cams and gears. You pick the path you want it to sail on and then you turn the dial to no 1 through 24. But if you take the top off you can turn the cams and gears to custom settings and you can make it go any way you want up to 32 different turns. The engine runs on coal. You have to crush the coal (same kind that one used to use to heat one's home or burn in a coal fired stove) into small nuggets of about quarter of an inch in size. You fill the coal bin with the coal and then you put a few pieces in the "oven" as he used to call it. You put in a few pieces of paper or cardboard or whatever soaked in lighter fluid and lit it on fire then you would close the oven door. If you want it to go fast you open the vents. If you want a slow moving ship you dilate the opening. Then you open the trap door that allows the coal nugget0s to roll into the oven and then close the engine compartment and turn the switch that begins the program and of course it has to be in a large enough body of water. The whistle would blow when it's about to leave port (beginning of program and then again just as it's about to enter port again. We set up ports at opposite ends of a pond when I was a kid and so it would travel from one and go onto the next. Not very accurate though as it usually missed the port and had to be manually turned around sometimes which would then mess up the program. If the water is calm it is accurate to within about one foot for every fifty that it travels. I have not found a steam powered tug boat available that cold be programmed to guide it into a port which would be ideal. I'm not an engineer so I have no idea how he designed this. Half of the mechanism I have never even seen as he welded some portions shut. One of the more interesting features are the lights. The steam engine can be set to spin a small electric generator that will turn on little incandescent light bulbs so you can see the lights in the little windows if you sail it at night. It also bellows smoke from the stacks and has crew and passenger figures on the decks and some of the crew moves via magnets under the decking that move mechanically under the deck following a slightly different path depending on which navigation program you choose. It is in mint condition and the only one of my great grandfather's models that I have. I think he built about a dozen models over the years but that was his pride and joy. He also built a little ride on steam boat big enough for a skipper and three -five passengers depending on if they were kids or adults. I rode that a few times as a child but it got sold to someone. I have no idea what the value is and I don't want to know because I will never part with it. Sadly the only family that is interested in inheriting it want to sell it so I will have to see if I can find an appropriate museum to leave it to.
Omg that's amazing! Do you have vids of it? I would love to see. People's ideas of hobbies back then inspire me.
❤️
Mans HappY.......
I love watching these! I am totally into antiques!
To say this, the so-called expert undervalued this watch, would be an understatement, to say the least. It's a beautiful solid silver Omega watch over 100 years old, and was owned by Lawrence of Arabia!!!! £6,000 to £10,000 pounds!!??? He either has No idea or was after buying it for a massively reduced price.
Oh my goodness !!! How incredible. What a good video. Thanks.
If only you could ask the Jewish family it was probably stolen off what it was used for... 🤷🏼♂️
I don’t believe it. I had a small boat several years ago. I simply thought G B N meant "Great Britain Nautical". I had no idea it was a valuable German toy.
This guy is my favourite out of all the people I've seen in Antiques Roadshow. He clearly loves that toy a lot, and when he's told how much it's worth, he seems proud for the toy in how well it's done for itself, rather than seeing just the raw dollar signs. I hope that, wherever that toy is now, it's being well looked after.
Sehr interessantes video
Ich habe auch einige dieser Wagen und eine Dampflok
Well, that's saying everyone can have it.
Love this guy. And the other jewellery gentleman. Delightful. They love what they do.
WHOSE GONNA WRITE THE CHECK? NOONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want one so i can do all the things she just said 😂
What ? I'm from UK and 30,000 plus back then was 2 houses thats why you can tell its all bull shit
I’d give them double that… Even back in 2000
What did they make in the Second World War 👀🤫
